Weekly Devotional 9-26-16 What Do You Believe About Jesus?

On the day of His arrest, Jesus told His disciples that He would be leaving them and that they could not follow Him. Thomas, one of the eleven, asked “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” In reply Jesus said to them “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:5-6 NKJV). Even though the eleven had been taught by Jesus for approximately three years about the kingdom of heaven, Thomas and his companions were still thinking in earthly terms. Jesus was speaking of heaven. What a claim! Even though they didn’t fully understand, and wouldn’t until they would be indwelt by the Holy Spirit, He was telling them that He was the only way to heaven, that He was the embodiment of truth about it, that He was the source of spiritual life and that the only path to Father God was through Him. Was He delusional, mentally deranged, or simply a charlatan? Or, was He stating truth?

The next day, these questions were answered for His disciples when He breathed on them and they received His Spirit, the Holy Spirit (John 20:22). The Spirit who was given to lead them to understanding and truth (John 14:15-26).

Each of us who have been born again spiritually also know the answer to the aforementioned questions, but what about you? If as of yet you have not been born again, what do you believe about Jesus Christ? Do you believe, disbelieve, or doubt that He is the way, the truth, the life, and the only way to the Father?
