Seth born in the image of Adam, not God’s

Adam in God’s Image / Seth In Adams image. Why the difference?

Reader’s remarks

After the fall of man (due to sin) Adam was formed immediately God as was the human nature of Christ. In each the nature was holy both were invested with dominion over the earth and its creations. In contrast Adam and Christ were each a federal head to the whole race of mankind, but the one was the fountain of sin and death, the other of righteousness and life. Adam communicated a living soul to all his posterity. Christ is a life giving spirit to restore life and immortality to them. God is spirit and the first great point of resemblance between man and his creator is found in man’s spiritual nature, his life is inbreathed from God. Adam begat a son in his own likeness. Man too reproduces after his kind, this likeness is now sinful in contrast to Gen. 1.26……..So Adam was created in Gods spiritual image because God is spirit, but when sin entered, the spiritual relationship fell and mankind as Seth was reproduced as in the image of his father Adam, God’s human creation……………Ok teacher what you think???????/

Reader’s remarks — After the fall of man (due to sin) Adam was formed immediately God as was the human nature of Christ. In each the nature was holy both were invested with dominion over the earth and its creations.

Steve’s reply— Adam was created righteous but not holy. Had he been created holy he could not have sinned.

Reader’s remarks— In each the nature was holy both were invested with dominion over the earth and its creations.

Steve’s reply— Again Adam was not created with a holy nature but was created with a nature that could fall away from righteousness. He was created with dominion over the earth and like God (to a degree) had the mind and ability to create. Having a spirit He could sense, communicate and fellowship with God. This was inclusive to only Adam and Eve and exclusive of all other life forms (with the exception of angels). This seems to be the best understanding of Adam created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26).

Reader’s remarks—Adam communicated a living soul to all his posterity.

Steve’s reply— A person at conception is body soul and spirit. When Adam fell (sinned) he gained a different nature than with that in which he was created. It was a nature fallen away from righteousness and it was this nature that was passed (seminally) from Adam to all his posterity, which is everyone. Adam’s sin had a terrible consequence as all persons from Adam forward are born as sinners. Sin was passed through His seed. This is why no one born of him could be man’s savior.

Readers comments— Christ is a life giving spirit to restore life and immortality to them.

Steve’s reply—Jesus was a man (the God-man) and it was by His obedience that the provision of restoration was made possible. It is God the Holy Spirit who regenerates man to new spiritual life. Regeneration is His work as He convicts and convinces man of his sin and aides said person in repenting of his sin and the ability to trust (have faith) in the finished work of Jesus on his (or her) behalf.

Readers comments— God is spirit and the first great point of resemblance between man and his creator is found in man’s spiritual nature.

Steve’s reply—Adam was created with a spiritual nature, that is, in him was the ability to recognize, communicate and fellowship with Holy God. However he died toward God on the day he disobeyed. He lost the ability of recognition, communication, and fellowship with God. It should be recognized that even though Adam had (past tense) a spiritual nature he was not Spirit as was God. No true likeness should be implied here.

Readers comments— his (Adam’s) life is inbreathed from God.

Steve’s reply—The breath of life was breathed into the nostrils of Adam and he became a living soul, however he died spiritually, he became dead toward God. All since Adam are born spiritually dead (separated from God). While it is true the breath of physical life is granted at the time of conception spiritual life comes to those who are called at some point many years after physical birth, at such time that the Holy Spirit regenerates them unto spiritual life.

Reader’s comments— Adam begat a son in his own likeness.

Steve’s reply— exactly right. Adam had become a sinner, was no longer in righteousness. All his offspring are born sinners without right-standing before Holy God. Consequently Seth was born in Adam’s image, not God’s.
Because sin is passed seminally to all people mans Savior could not come from man. He must be of God. He was the seed of the woman, not the seed of man. This was prophesied of in Genesis 3:15. And fulfilled In Jesus (John 1:1-2; 14) the only human being without a human father preventing sin being inherent to Him.
