Neil Diamond made history with this 1969 hit song called “Brother Love’s Travelling Salvation Show.” Today there are a lot of “travelling salvation shows” but the big one is all about love. It is love that has difficulty saying the words like sin, repentance, condemnation, obedience, justice, etc. It is love that lost all its convictions. The apostle John is known as the love guy in the New Testament, but his Gospel and first Epistle are filled with references to sin, repentance and God’s justice regarding unbelievers.

Regarding “Brother Love’s False Gospel,” one need not wonder how Paul would have felt about this false gospel that did not confront evil and warn the deceived. Here is Paul’s stern warning to Brother Love: “But there are some…… who want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let them be accursed (Galatians 1:7-8).” Warning still not clear enough? For more emphasis, Paul repeated himself word for word in verse 9 of Galatians. Paul understood that excessive emphasis in one area of truth, while under emphasizing or omitting other areas of truth, would create an in-balance that would eventually lead to full-blown heresy.

It is difficult to understand how anyone with an understanding of the holiness of God could constantly preach only messages of love yet omit sin and or call people to repentance. Nothing that would bring real conviction of sin or give an understanding of why repentance is even necessary because people might feel uncomfortable. It’s truly a love cult promoting the sugar-coated gospel that preaches a false unconditional love that denies God’s righteous requirement of entering through the narrow gate, without mentioning His wrath and the coming judgement on all sinners. They do a great disservice to the true gospel by preaching half the truth in their “feel good gospel” to draw the unsuspecting to their ranks. Is this the work of “seducing spirits and doctrines of demons” that we find Paul warned us of in 1 Timothy 4:1?

What happens to those unsuspecting individuals that are so attracted to these groups (Christianity Without the Religion and others), when Brother Love pronounces them “born-again” before they have even heard why they need a Savior? What happens when people, who have never been convicted of sin and, therefore, have never truly repented of sin, pray to receive Jesus? Instead of learning about salvation, they have received the false hope of heaven based on the deceptive words of Brother Love.

Paul said that the gospel of the deceivers is “no gospel at all (Galatians 1:7).” There is no substance to it. It doesn’t have the power to save a flea just like Brother Love’s gospel that emphasizes love to the neglect of holiness. Sugar coated Christianity is for lightweights who are more concerned about feeling good than they are about fulfilling the Great Commission that Jesus demanded of us in preaching the gospel that saves.
Paul didn’t try to create a fan club out of followers with itching ears. He didn’t preach to scratch people wherever they itched. Paul is diametrically different than Brother Love. He preached what people needed to hear, not what they wanted to hear. Paul and his disciples did something Brother Love preachers never do – they combined warning, rebuke, and correction with encouragement and instruction (2 Tim. 4:2). He told Titus, “Rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith (Titus 1:13).” God doesn’t adjust or alter the gospel based on what people want. He always begins with what they need and what people want is often not what they need. Jesus began His preaching ministry with the word that Brother Love’s seeker-sensitive leaders never say – “Repent.”

Satan will influence the teachers and preachers of Brother Love with the message of God’s love and that takes care of sins, salvation, redemption, God’s judgement, and everything else. Just dwell in the love of God and you will be with Him forever – no more being called sinners nor hearing about condemnation, judgement, or hell. In fact, I think these false preachers are so being deceived by Satan’s lie, they actually feel that they are trying to save humanity and mankind, and WE who proclaim the Good News of the Gospel of Christ Jesus are branded as religious fanatics. Hence, they call themselves “………Christianity Without the Religion” but in truth they should call themselves “…….Christianity Without the Gospel of Christ.” They are totally blinded by darkness and in the palm of Satan’s hand. Satan is going to do everything he can to keep people from knowing Jesus Christ, repenting, and coming to the Lord for salvation.

Satan, being a master of deceit, we can see his modus operandi using Brother Love and their false gospel of love to deceive people and keep people from knowing their Lord and Savior. Jesus calls Satan, “the god of this world that has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ (2 Cor. 4:4).” Satan’s agenda includes pushing a false philosophy unto the unbelieving world that binds the unbeliever from the truth of the gospel. Satan often disguises error with a veneer of truth. Satan seeks to destroy the truth of God’s word while derailing its effectiveness through the insertion of a false doctrine, in this case, the false gospel of love. Giving a false hope and belief that they are going to heaven and even assuring them to the point that they have a settled peace about the matter, when in reality they are not saved and not going to heaven. It is unbelievable, as to what we’re seeing, the deceptive power of Satan actually using the love of God to deceive and mislead individuals to an eternity separated from God.

Christ never sugar coated the truth. Preaching the message of Christ should make people repent and turn back from sin and not allow them to live in a false doctrine of love which is not from God and turning grace into lewdness. Scripture warned about this sugar-coated gospel. “And whoever will not receive you nor hear you (gospel of Christ)… Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgement. So they went out and preached that people should repent (Mark 6:11-12).” Also, it should be noted that from that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Hence, a warning, depart from this feel-good, sugar-coated gospel that preaches a false unconditional love that denies God’s righteous requirements of “entering through the narrow gate that leads to eternal life and there are few who find it (Matt. 7:13-14).” Sadly, these false preachers and teachers know that if they just mentioned enough of the Bible; emphasizing the feel-good parts which people like to hear, they can get away with their lies and command a following. Wolves in sheep’s clothing fleecing the flock (Matt. 7:15). But only for now. This will be short-lived because the Day of Reckoning is coming. They will all have to give an account before the Father for what they have taught (or not taught). These false love cult preachers and teachers will have nothing to say before God when their deceptions are exposed, and they will be judged without mercy.

In closing: After two months of posting blogs to this one group and receiving rebukes from administration and other members when presenting the gospel message or just sharing God’s word, I then realized that something was wrong. I then started checking in to their own postings on Facebook and on the Internet and finding out more about the people who are involved in these growing groups that are starting to pop up on social media trying to attract followers using the bait – “Christianity without the religion” or similar bait slogans. I never suspected that there would be people like this out there using God’s love to deceive followers but Satan, being Satan, is a very crafty and devious counterfeiter and he will use and do anything to prevent people from knowing our Lord and Savior. Anyways, I finally realized that this was a cult preaching the false gospel of love and deceiving people in following them.

Fortunately, with God’s help, I was able to share God’s word and the gospel of Jesus Christ for two months with the group of 5000 plus. During this time of postings to them, I received many rebukes and some nasty comments before they realized what I was doing and had me banned from the group. I even had words with the leaders warning them and telling them what they were doing was very deceitful and not Scriptural. They told me that I should stick to my own group (they obviously checked me out) and not bother them and what they were doing – in other words, mind my own business and then they banned me from the group.

I want to expose this to other Christian groups and individuals so that they are aware of what is happening and how people are being lured to this feel-good false gospel of love. Also, to show others the deceptive power of Satan who can use this false gospel of love to deceive and mislead individuals to an eternity separated from God. In essence, Satan doing everything he can to prevent individuals from being saved. You know there is an old saying, “If it is too good to be true, it probably is.” Maybe we can apply this to the deceptive feel-good love gospel that when people hear this being preached and it’s too good to be true regarding one’s salvation, they should stop, turnaround, and walk away.

I think we need to remind people that the prophets weren’t killed for revealing a God of love and the future of divine reward. Jesus wasn’t crucified for being the nicest and friendliest Man in Israel. The apostles weren’t murdered for preaching a message of divine accommodation of sin. Stephen didn’t have his skull caved in by rocks for reminding people that they were loved by God, and the early church wasn’t persecuted for holding hands and singing kumbaya to sinners.
