Devocional Semanal 4-18-22 Fuego y Azufre
Hace años escuché una conversación sobre predicadores de televisión y surgió la Hora del Poder de Robert Schuller . Uno de los miembros del grupo dijo que de los muchos predicadores de televisión que ha escuchado en la televisión, prefería al Sr. Schuller por encima de la mayoría de ellos. Otro del grupo dijo: “Ah, sí, él no es uno de estos predicadores de fuego y azufre”. Inmediatamente pensé en las palabras de Jesús registradas en Mateo 16:26, “ Porque ¿qué aprovechará al hombre, si ganare todo el mundo, y perdiere su alma? ¿O qué recompensa dará el hombre por su alma?”
Muchas personas hoy en día son como la persona mencionada anteriormente, preferirían un mensaje que calme su conciencia o la construya psicológicamente en lugar de un mensaje que hable de la difícil situación del hombre antes de la salvación; que el hombre sin Dios está perdido y se dirige hacia la separación eterna de Él. Ahora, no estaba ni estoy ridiculizando al Sr. Schuller, ya que no sé lo que estaba sucediendo detrás de escena. Es muy posible que haya estado ministrando a las necesidades espirituales de las personas. Él puede haber estado verdaderamente sirviendo al Señor de una manera que agradó a Dios. Sin embargo, en su transmisión semanal de la Hora del Poder había un gran potencial para que muchos fueran engañados al pensar que estaban bien con Dios. Los mensajes transmitidos por Schuller se centraron en el amor de Dios, rara vez en Su santidad que exige que se pague el pecado. El hombre debe entender que a causa del pecado está separado de Dios Santo y será expulsado para siempre de Su presencia a menos que se satisfaga el juicio de Dios contra ese pecado.
De vuelta en Génesis, Dios le advirtió a Adán que si desobedecía Su única prohibición, en ese mismo día, en ese mismo momento, moriría hacia Él. El registro nos dice que Adán desobedeció, y que murió espiritualmente hacia Dios, en ese mismo momento. El registro nos dice que Adán y su esposa Eva trataron de esconderse de Dios. No solo estaban separados de su creador debido a su desobediencia, sino que querían serlo. El Sr. Schuller rara vez se ocupaba de esta verdad en sus sermones. Si bien uno puede sentirse bien consigo mismo después de escucharlo, el contenido de sus sermones no lo llevó ni lo lleva a comprender el pecado y la necesidad del perdón; de la necesidad de ser hecho justo con Dios Santo. Pablo en su carta a los Romanos testificó que: “10 Como está escrito: No hay justo, ni aun uno; 11 No hay quien entienda,No hay quien busque a Dios. 12 Todos se desviaron, a una se hicieron inútiles; No hay quien haga lo bueno, no hay ni siquiera uno.” (Romanos 3:10-12). La gente necesita saber que el pecado debe ser tratado, que paga del pecado es muerte (Romanos 6:23a). También necesitan que se les diga que por sus propios esfuerzos no pueden estar a la altura de la demanda de santidad de Dios, solo Jesús puede lograr eso por ellos. En otra carta, Pablo escribió: 8 Porque por gracia sois salvos por medio de la fe; y esto no de vosotros, pues es don de Dios; 9 no por obras, para que nadie se gloríe. 10 Porque somos hechura suya, creados en Cristo Jesús para buenas obras, las cuales Dios preparó de antemano para que anduviésemos en ellas. (Efesios 2:8-10).
With this same truth in mind the writer of Hebreos wrote, “:28 así también Cristo fue ofrecido una sola vez para llevar los pecados de muchos; y aparecerá por segunda vez, sin relación con el pecado, para salvar a los que le esperan…..:1 Porque la ley, teniendo la sombra de los bienes venideros, no la imagen misma de las cosas, nunca puede, por los mismos sacrificios que se ofrecen continuamente cada año, hacer perfectos a los que se acercan. 2 De otra manera cesarían de ofrecerse, pues los que tributan este culto, limpios una vez, no tendrían ya más conciencia de pecado. 3 Pero en estos sacrificios cada año se hace memoria de los pecados; 4 porque la sangre de los toros y de los machos cabríos no puede quitar los pecados. 5 Por lo cual, entrando en el mundo dice: Sacrificio y ofrenda no quisiste; Mas me preparaste cuerpo. 6 Holocaustos y expiaciones por el pecado no te agradaron. 7 Entonces dije: He aquí que vengo, oh Dios, para hacer tu voluntad, 8 Diciendo primero: Sacrificio y ofrenda y holocaustos y expiaciones por el pecado no quisiste, ni te agradaron (las cuales cosas se ofrecen según la ley), 9 y diciendo luego: He aquí que vengo, oh Dios, para hacer tu voluntad; quita lo primero, para establecer esto último. 10 En esa voluntad somos santificados mediante la ofrenda del cuerpo de Jesucristo hecha una vez para siempre. 11 Y ciertamente todo sacerdote está día tras día ministrando y ofreciendo muchas veces los mismos sacrificios, que nunca pueden quitar los pecados;12 pero Cristo, habiendo ofrecido una vez para siempre un solo sacrificio por los pecados, se ha sentado a la diestra de Dios, 13 de ahí en adelante esperando hasta que sus enemigos sean puestos por estrado de sus pies; 14 porque con una sola ofrenda hizo perfectos para siempre a los santificados”(Hebreos 9:28-10:14).
Este es el mensaje que todos los predicadores, o maestros, que proclaman la Palabra de Dios deben predicar. Este es el único mensaje que librará a los hombres de la muerte espiritual.

Years ago I overheard a conversation about television preachers and Robert Schuller’s Hour of Power came up. One of the group said that out of the many television preachers that he has heard on television he preferred Mr. Schuller above most of them. Another of the group said, “Ah yes, he is not one of these fire and brimstone preachers.” Immediately I thought of Jesus words recorded in Mathew 16:26, “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
Many people today are like the person mentioned above, they would prefer a message that soothes their conscience or builds them up psychologically rather than a message that speaks of man’s plight before salvation; that man without God is lost and headed toward eternal separation from Him. Now, I was not nor am I now ridiculing Mr. Schuller since I do not know what was happening behind the scenes. He may very well have been ministering to people’s spiritual needs. He may truly have been serving the Lord in a way that pleased God. However, in his weekly broadcast of the Hour of Power there was a great potential for many to be misled into thinking that they were right with God. Schuller’s broadcasted messages centered on God’s love, seldom on His holiness which demands that sin be paid for. Man must understand that because of sin he is separated from Holy God and will be cast forever out of His presence unless God’s judgment against that sin is satisfied.
Back in Genesis, God warned Adam that if he disobeyed His one prohibition he would on that very day, at that very moment, die toward Him. The record tells us that Adam did disobey, and that he did die spiritually toward God, at that very moment. The record tells us that Adam and his wife Eve tried to hide themselves from God. They were not only separated from their creator because of their disobedience but wanted to be. Mr. Schuller seldom dealt with this truth in his sermons. While one may feel good about himself after listening to him, the content of his sermons did not and does not lead one to an understanding of sin and the need of forgiveness; of the need of being made right with Holy God. Paul in his letter to the Romans testified that: “10There is none righteous, no, not one; 11 There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God.12 They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one” (Romans 3:10-12). People need to know that sin must be dealt with, that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23a). They also need to be told that by their own efforts they cannot measure up to God’s demand of holiness, only Jesus can accomplish that for them. In another letter, Paul wrote: “8For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:8-10).
With this same truth in mind the writer of Hebrews wrote, 28so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. 10 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. 2For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. 3But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. 5Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: ‘Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me. 6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You had no pleasure.’ 7 Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come— In the volume of the book it is written of Me—To do Your will, O God.’ 8Previously saying, ‘Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them’(which are offered according to the law), 9then He said, ‘Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.’ He takes away the first that He may establish the second. 10By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, 13from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. 14For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified” (Hebrews 9:28-10:14).
This is the message that all preachers, or teachers, who proclaim God’s Word must preach. This is the only message that will deliver men from spiritual death.
