Independence Day 2022 / What’s Ahead for America

In that the date for this week’s devotional falls on July fourth, we wondered just what we should write. It is always our intention to honor God and be spiritually encouraging to our readers. Having considered several different possibilities and looking through our archives of postings we concluded that the following article written by Ed Hindson of The King Is Coming would be most appropriate. Consider:

What’s Ahead For America?

The battle for America is being waged in our public life. The Bible warns us that: “…in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God,” 2nd Timothy 3:1-4.

We are about to face an onslaught as never before against the beliefs and values of Christianity in America. What kind of nation does God really expect us to be? What is He calling us to do in these crucial days in the battle for America? I remind you of the words of the Prophet Micah, who said: “He hath shown thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” Micah 6:8.

America is doing anything and everything but that these days. It is a far cry from September 6, 1774, when the Continental Congress opened with the reading of Psalm 35 and three hours of prayer, as they met to discuss the fate of the thirteen colonies that would become the United States of America.

We’ve come so far that just a few days ago, Congress opened with a prayer led by Representative Emanuel Cleaver, a Missouri Democrat, in which he prayed to a monotheistic god. Cleaver ended his prayer to “god known by many names by many different faiths. Amen and a-woman.” Amen is a Latin word meaning “so be it” and does not refer to gender. A-woman does not mean anything!

The very basis for the colonists to rebel and to establish their own independent nation was expressed as the authority of God Himself. The Constitution, ratified in 1789, mentions God. It affirms the Deity of Jesus Christ. And it is signed “in the year of our Lord.” By modern definition, the Constitution would be unconstitutional!

The whole emphasis of the structure of the United States is based on an awareness of the reality of the Person of God. We need to come back to moral and spiritual sanity, and to the Biblical foundation of what America is all about and recognize that this indeed is one nation under God, to the glory of God.

We realize that the promise of blessing is to the redeemed. But God will bless a nation that is willing to acknowledge Him. The Bible says very clearly: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord…,” Psalm 33:12.

As America gets further and further away from God, the heart and soul of America becomes more and more decadent than ever before. We are living in days of anarchy, chaos, and confusion. Now is not the time to give up, to throw in the towel. No, we must pray for our country and allow the light and love of Christ to shine through us to a very dark world. Let us do justice, show mercy, and walk humbly with our Lord.

Having consider Mr. Hindson’s work I now draw your attention to the book of Joshua and read his last message to Israel just before his death.

Joshua 23:Now it came to pass, a long time after the Lord had given rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua was old, advanced in age. And Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders, for their heads, for their judges, and for their officers, and said to them: “I am old, advanced in age. You have seen all that the Lord your God has done to all these nations because of you, for the Lord your God is He who has fought for you.

See, I have divided to you by lot these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from the Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, as far as the Great Sea westward

And the Lord your God will expel them from before you and drive them out of your sight. So you shall possess their land, as the Lord your God promised you. Therefore be very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, lest you turn aside from it to the right hand or to the left,

and lest you go among these nations, these who remain among you. You shall not make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause anyone to swear by them; you shall not serve them nor bow down to them, but you shall hold fast to the Lord your God, as you have done to this day. For the Lord has driven out from before you great and strong nations; but as for you, no one has been able to stand against you to this day.10 One man of you shall chase a thousand, for the Lord your God is He who fights for you, as He promised you.

11 Therefore take careful heed to yourselves, that you love the Lord your God. 12 Or else, if indeed you do go back, and cling to the remnant of these nations–these that remain among you–and make marriages with them, and go in to them and they to you,

13 know for certain that the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations from before you. But they shall be snares and traps to you, and scourges on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the Lord your God has given you. 14 “Behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth. And you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spoke concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one word of them has failed. 15 Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all the good things have come upon you which the Lord your God promised you, so the Lord will bring upon you all harmful things, until He has destroyed you from this good land which the Lord your God has given you. 16 When you have transgressed the covenant of the Lord your God, which He commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed down to them, then the anger of the Lord will burn against you, and you shall perish quickly from the good land which He has given you.”

24:Then Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem and called for the elders of Israel, for their heads, for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.

And Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Your fathers, including Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor, dwelt on the other side of the River in old times; and they served other gods. Then I took your father Abraham from the other side of the River, led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his descendants and gave him Isaac.

‘To Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. To Esau I gave the mountains of Seir to possess, but Jacob and his children went down to Egypt.

‘Also I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to what I did among them. Afterward I brought you out. ‘Then I brought your fathers out of Egypt, and you came to the sea; and the Egyptians pursued your fathers with chariots and horsemen to the Red Sea.

‘So they cried out to the Lord; and He put darkness between you and the Egyptians, brought the sea upon them, and covered them. And your eyes saw what I did in Egypt. Then you dwelt in the wilderness a long time. ‘And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, who dwelt on the other side of the Jordan, and they fought with you. But I gave them into your hand, that you might possess their land, and I destroyed them from before you.

‘Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose to make war against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you. 10 ‘But I would not listen to Balaam; therefore he continued to bless you. So I delivered you out of his hand. 11 ‘Then you went over the Jordan and came to Jericho. And the men of Jericho fought against you–also the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. But I delivered them into your hand.

12 ‘I sent the hornet before you which drove them out from before you, also the two kings of the Amorites, but not with your sword or with your bow. 13 ‘I have given you a land for which you did not labor, and cities which you did not build, and you dwell in them; you eat of the vineyards and olive groves which you did not plant.’

14 “Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord! 15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

May we on this day, July 4th, 2022, remember God and our heritage as we ought and worship Him. Let others who have determined to serve the gods of their imaginations, do so, but let us, who are Christian, serve Him.
