Weekly Devotional 5-13-24 We Have not Been Left Alone

Many have claimed that God may have created all there is, but He is not actively involved or concerned with the affairs of men in this present age. However, Scripture refutes such claims. Revelation 13:8 for instance qualifies that Jesus Christ, the Lamb, was slain from the foundation of the world. Why was He slain in the mind and plan of God before His creative acts, if in truth He would not be actively involved with His creation? Why would God the Son, leave heaven’s glory and take on human flesh in order that He could die on behalf of fallen man? Consider for instance what the writer of the book Hebrews was led to write concerning this.

1 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. 5 Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me. 6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You had no pleasure. 7 Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come– In the volume of the book it is written of Me– To do Your will, O God.’ ” 8 Previously saying, “Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the law), 9 then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. 10 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Because no one could be saved (Caused to be in right standing with God) by the Law or by attempts trying to keep it (by works), God intervened. It is unbelievable that the Creator of the world would become a creature of that creation for the purpose of dying. But He Did! How much more could He be involved?

Because He is involved, He has done for us that which we could not do or even have a desire to do. Consider > 1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them”(Ephesians 2:1-10).

Thank you, Lord, for not leaving us alone and making a way for us to be in your presence throughout eternity.
