Devocional Semanal 3-28-22 / Salvación y Compromiso con el Señorío
Recientemente escuché a un maestro de la Biblia exclamar que: “La salvación es un regalo gratuito de Dios; es dada por Él a los inmerecidos. No hay nada que una persona pueda hacer para ganar su salvación” (fin de la cita). El apóstol Pablo afirma esta verdad en su carta a los Efesios, escribió; “ 1Y él os dio vida a vosotros, cuando estabais muertos en vuestros delitos y pecados, 2 en los cuales anduvisteis en otro tiempo, siguiendo la corriente de este mundo, conforme al príncipe de la potestad del aire, el espíritu que ahora opera en los hijos de desobediencia, 3 entre los cuales también todos nosotros vivimos en otro tiempo en los deseos de nuestra carne, haciendo la voluntad de la carne y de los pensamientos, y éramos por naturaleza hijos de ira, lo mismo que los demás. 4 Pero Dios, que es rico en misericordia, por su gran amor con que nos amó, 5 aun estando nosotros muertos en pecados, nos dio vida juntamente con Cristo (por gracia sois salvos)” (Efesios 2:1-5). Pablo se incluyó a sí mismo y a sus semejantes (los judíos) en esta evaluación afirmando que antes de que se les concediera una nueva vida, todos ellos estaban muertos hacia Dios, tanto los gentiles como los judíos y, por extensión, esto recae en todas las personas desde Adán hasta el presente.
Considerando la evaluación anterior encontramos que Dios tiene un propósito en la concesión de esta nueva vida, es poner fin a la separación que existe entre Él y el hombre caído. Dios restauró la vida espiritual a Adán, y Él ha restaurado la vida espiritual a muchos a lo largo de estos muchos siglos, continuando hasta nuestros días. Esta nueva vida abre y mantiene abierta la línea de comunicación entre Dios y los destinatarios de la misma. Esta nueva vida hace que el receptor se vuelva de (se arrepienta de) su pecado, provoca un cambio de comportamiento (un nuevo estilo de vida) y hace que el receptor confiera el señorío y la autoridad de Jesucristo sobre su vida.
Pero Dios no hace Sus robots redimidos adormecidos por la mente, ellos (nosotros) debemos trabajar en su (nuestra) salvación, es decir, el hijo de Dios debe obrar la salvación dada gratuitamente a él (o ella) por Dios (Filipenses 2: 5-15). Esta nueva vida hace posible vivir una vida piadosa de disciplina y obediencia, vivir una vida que demuestre lo que Dios ha traído. Esta nueva vida se confirma al participar activamente. Santiago, el medio hermano del Señor después de la carne, dijo que el creyente debía ser “ 22 Pero sed 2 hacedores de la palabra, y no tan solamente oidores, engañándoos a vosotros mismos.” (Santiago 1:22). Continuó enumerando varias cosas que calificarían a un creyente como un hacedor y no solo un oyente (versículos 1:26-2:26). Preguntó intencionadamente en el versículo 14 del capítulo 2; “ Hermanos míos, ¿de qué aprovechará si alguno dice que tiene fe, y no tiene obras? ¿Podrá la fe salvarle?” Así que ciertamente, como el maestro de la Biblia mencionado anteriormente ofreció, la salvación es un regalo gratuito, pero hay un costo para el creyente, la salvación no es un viaje gratis, viene con la entrega y el compromiso.
Una persona no puede reclamar verdaderamente la salvación y vivir como lo hacía antes de que esta nueva vida naciera en él (o ella). En otra carta (su carta a los Gálatas) Pablo escribió que sus lectores debían “Andad en el Espíritu ” y si lo hacían, ellos “Digo, pues: Andad en el Espíritu, y no satisfagáis los deseos de la carne. ” (Galatas 5:16). Caminar en el Espíritu Santo significa que el cristiano debe estar comprometido con Su autoridad, con Su dirección sobre sus vidas y esto es cierto para nosotros.
La nueva vida espiritual es regenerada (nace) por el Espíritu Santo cuando Él convence a las personas de su pecado, las convence de que están separadas de Dios Santo y necesitan Su misericordia. A medida que el Espíritu Santo realiza esta obra sobrenatural, el receptor se encuentra creyendo estas verdades y comprometiendo su vida con Él, comprometiéndose con Él no solo para la salvación, sino para Su Señorío. El propósito de Dios para Sus hijos es que se conformen a la imagen de Jesucristo, Su Hijo unigénito (Romanos 8:29). Habiendo sido adoptados por Dios, nosotros, como Sus hijos, debemos tener una mentalidad diferente a la de los días en que vivíamos de acuerdo con la carne, en los días en que estábamos controlados por nuestra vieja naturaleza.
Si una persona debe reclamar la salvación y no experimentar o desear un cambio, es muy dudoso que una nueva vida espiritual haya nacido, regenerada.

Weekly Devotional 3-28-22 / Salvation and Commitment to Lordship Recently I heard a Bible teacher exclaim that, “Salvation is a free gift from God; it is given by Him to the undeserved. There is nothing that a person can do to earn his or her salvation” (end of quote). The apostle Paul affirms this truth in his letter to the Ephesians, he wrote; “ 1And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. 4But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ” (Ephesians 2:1-5). Paul included himself and his fellows (the Jews) in this assessment stating that before new life was granted all of them were dead toward God, both the Gentiles and the Jews and by extension, this falls to all persons from Adam to the present. Considering the above assessment further we find that God has a purpose in the granting of this new life, it is to end the separation that exists between Himself and fallen man. God restored spiritual life to Adam, and He has restored spiritual life to many across these many centuries, continuing to our day. This new life opens and keeps open the line of communication between God and the recipients of it. This new life causes the recipient to turn from (repent of) his or her sin, it brings about a change of behavior (a new lifestyle), and it causes the recipient to avow the Lordship and authority of Jesus Christ over his or her life. But God does not make His redeemed mind-numbed robots, they (we) are to work out their (our) salvation, that is, the child of God is to work out the salvation given freely to him (or her) by God (Philippians 2:5-15). This new life makes it possible to live a Godly life of discipline and obedience, to live a life that demonstrates what God has brought about. This new life is borne out by being actively engaged. James, the Lord’s 2 half-brother after the flesh, said that the believer was to be “a doer of the word and not a hearer only” (James 1:22). He went on to list several things that would qualify a believer as being a doer and not a hearer only (verses 1:26-2:26). He pointedly asked in verse 14 of chapter 2; “ 14What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?” So certainly, as the abovementioned Bible teacher proffered, salvation is a free gift, but there is a cost to the believer, salvation is not a free ride, it comes with surrender and commitment. A person cannot truly claim salvation and live as he or she did before this new life was birthed in him (or her). In another letter (his letter to the Galatians) Paul wrote that his readers were to “Walk in the Holy Spirit” and if they did, they “would not fulfill the lust of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16). Walking in the Holy Spirit means that the Christian is to be committed to His authority, to His direction over their lives and this holds true of us. New Spiritual life is regenerated (is birthed) by the Holy Spirit as He convicts persons of their sin, convinces them that they are separated from Holy God and are in need of His mercy. As the Holy Spirit performs this supernatural work the recipient finds himself believing these truths and committing his life to Him, committing themselves to Him not just for salvation, but to His Lordship. God’s purpose for His children is that they be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son (Romans 8:29). Having been adopted by God, we, as His children, are to have a different mind-set than in the days when we lived according to the flesh, in the days in which we were controlled by our old natures. If a person should claim salvation and not experience or desire change it is very doubtful that new spiritual life has been birthed, regenerated.
